Free workshop to offer introduction to pipe organ

Joey Fala, a 2010 'Iolani School graduate, will lead the PipeWorks program at three churches on July 9.

Organist and teacher Katherine Crosier of the Lutheran Church of Honolulu is offering a free PipeWorks program to introduce students to the pipe organ from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 9.

The workshopis for those grade 6 and older. It starts at the Lutheran Church at 1730 Punahou St. and moves to St. Clement’s Episcopal Church at 1515 Wilder Ave. and later to Central Union Church at 1660 S. Beretania St. All churches are within walking distance.

At each site, students will be able to play the organ and get inside the pipe chambers, Crosier said.

Leading the program will be Joey Fala, a 2010 ‘Iolani School graduate who began lessons eight years ago at PipeWorks. He and other teenage organists will perform during the workshop.
