Golf tourney will fund youth programs

The 15th Annual Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 11 at the Ala Wai Golf Course as a fundraiser to maintain the Buddhist mission’s youth and educational programs.

Check-in time is 10:30 a.m., with a shotgun start at 12:15 p.m. The deadline to register is July 29, and the tournament will be limited to the first 198 golfers. The fee is $150 per golfer or $450 for a three-person team; the cost includes four par-3 contests, lunch and a banquet.

Donations, sponsors and the contribution of prizes are welcome, as are volunteers for the day of the tournament. Call the Betsuin at 536-7044 or Mel Kawahara at 352-5550 for more information on sponsorship and registration.

Some of the programs to benefit from the proceeds include the Dharma (Sunday) School, the Junior Young Buddhist Association, cultural classes and the taiko group.

Donation checks should be made payable to Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin. Mail them to the Golf Tournament Committee, Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway, Honolulu, HI 96813.
