Four former Waiawa prison inmates, who tasted less than 2 days of freedom after running away from the minimum security facility last month, will go on trial in September.

Elijah Keakahumoku, 26; Jordan White, 22; David Carvalho, Jr., 40; and Thomas George, 24, were recaptured on the night June 27 at a Wahiawa apartment and the parking lot of the Pagoda Hotel.

They pled not guilty this morning to second degree escape charges via video conference from the Oahu Community Correctional Center, where they are currently being held.

Their trial is scheduled for the week of Sept. 6 before Circuit Judge Karen Ahn.

If convicted, the men could see up to 5 years added to their sentences.

All four men had been scheduled to receive parole hearings in the next 18 months, public safety officials said.

The men were noticed missing early on the morning of June 26 after allegedly jumping over two fences to get away.

They were charged with escape on June 29.
