A 24-year-old Japanese tourist is in “good” condition at a local hospital after he was stabbed during a robbery attempt early this morning in Palolo Valley.

Police said that the suspect stabbed the male visitor at Rainbow Mini-Mart on Palolo Avenue at 12:30 a.m. this morning.

Police said the suspect brandished a knife and demanded money. The victim, who was sitting in the passenger seat of a car, raised his arm to defend himself and was stabbed in the shoulder.

News reports say the victim was in a convertible with a group of tourists apparently lost in the Palolo area.

After the stabbing, the driver took off to a Waikiki gas station, where they flagged a police officer.

Police are searching for the suspect.
