Connie Lau, president and CEO of Hawaiian Electric Industries and chairwoman of both Hawaiian Electric Co. and American Savings Bank, was nominated today along with four others by President Barack Obama to be a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

“These fine public servants both bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their new roles,” he said. “Our nation will be well-served by these men and women, and I look forward to working with them in the months and years to come.

Nominated along with Lau were Jack Baylis, executive vice president of Global Water for AECOM Technology, a provider of professional, technical and management support services; David Grain, founder and managing partner of Grain Management LLC, a private equity firm that invests in the telecommunications sector; Donald Knauss, chairman and CEO of the Clorox Co.; and Beverly Scott, CEO and general manager of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.

The National Infrastructure Advisory Council’s job is to provide the president, through the secretary of Homeland Security, with advice on the security of the critical infrastructure sectors and their information systems. The council is composed of a maximum of 30 members, appointed by the president from private industry, academia, and state and local government.
