Kauai police warns of alarm companies tactics

The Kauai Police Department is warning residents about alarm companies claiming to be endorsed by authorities.

Kauai police said Friday that officials have received calls about representatives of home alarm companies saying police promote their services.

KITV-TV reports Kauai Police Chief Darryl Perry is urging residents to research companies first with agencies such as the Better Business Bureau. He says the department has no affiliation with any alarm company and would not endorse any product or service.

Perry says homeowners should also be wary of any deceptive sales tactics such as time-limited offers or promises of free installation for acting quickly.

Residents should also get written estimates from more than one company.
