Police warn of car break-ins in lower Puna

Big Island police are warning the public about recent car break-ins in the lower Puna area at isolated parks ranging from Lava Tree Park to Kehena Beach parking lot.

The thieves enter the vehicles by breaking glass or reaching into partially opened windows to unlock the door. Victims have included visitors and residents.

Police said unattended vehicles should be locked and secured properly, and advised people to not leave valuables in vehicles. If it is necessary to do so, conceal items out of view.

If you have any information on these cases call community police officer Daniel Rances at 965-2716. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous may call CrimeStoppers at 961-8300 in Hilo or 329-8181 in Kona.
