Hikers rescued after two nights on Kauai
Four men who set off on a day hike to Kokee on Friday were airlifted from the Poomau Canyon Lookout Trail this morning, Kauai County officials said.
The men — two are 18 years old and two are 20 years old — were reported missing by one of their parents Saturday afternoon when they failed to return home and could not be reached.
Kauai police found their vehicle near mile marker 9 on Kokee Road and called Kauai firefighters and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources for a ground and air search.
Rescue specialists aboard the fire department’s Air 1 helicopter located all four men at about 7 p.m. Saturday night but could not remove them because of darkness, county officials said.
Rescuers dropped water, food and blankets and told the group they would return at daylight this morning.
