The Visitor Aloha Society is organizing a fundraiser for retired Honolulu Fire Department Capt. Richard Soo, whose home was heavily damaged by fire last week.

Soo, a former VASH board member, had served for several years as the spokesman for HFD. His Punchbowl-area home burned on Tuesday after a pot was left unattended heating on a stove.

VASH president Jessica Lani Rich said the fundraiser will be held Aug. 18, at 5 p.m., at the Old Spaghetti Factory at Ward Warehouse. The cost of $17.50 covers dinner, dessert, tax and tip.
