WEIFANG, China >> The Hawaii men’s basketball team applied some effective adjustments and got big games on the interior in rolling to an 86-71 exhibition victory over Qingdao of the Chinese Basketball Association today.
Junior forward Joston Thomas scored 17 of his game-high 20 points off the bench in the first half and sophomore center Davis Rozitis added 18 points as the Rainbow Warriors avenged an 81-80 loss to the Eagles on Friday night. UH improved to 1-1 in full games on the Warriors to Asia tour with three remaining.
A crowd of about 1,000 at Weifang College Gym saw UH commit only 11 turnovers, exhibit a much improved passing game and play lockdown defense on the Eagles’ top scorers. Qingdao guard Li Geng, who torched UH for 33 points on Friday, was held to 13 in the rematch.
A Thomas dunk in the second quarter made it 27-9 and the Rainbows held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
