A man wanted last week for questioning in an attempted murder case turned himself in to Hawaii County police.

Police said today that Maurice Hackett, 34, turned himself in Friday and was arrested Saturday on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder. He was released pending investigation.

Last week, police asked for the public’s help in finding Hackett who was described as “armed and dangerous.”

Police said Hackett, who has no permanent address but frequents the Waa Waa area, was wanted in connection with a shooting in Puna Thursday night that injured a 26-year-old man. The victim, also with no permanent address, was taken to the Pahoa fire station late Thursday night with a gunshot to his lower body and a grazing wound to his head. He was transferred to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
