Vice President Biden to stop in Hawaii after 9-day Asia trip

Vice President Joe Biden, who arrived in Beijing today, will stop in Hawaii next week and deliver a speech to Kaneohe Bay Marines as he returns from a nine-day Asian trip.

White House officials said Biden will give a speech to Marines and their family on the afternoon of Aug. 25. He arrives that morning and will leave in the evening. No other details of his stopover were released and Marine Corps officials at Kaneohe provided no further information.

Beijing is Biden’s first stop on a trip to China, Mongolia, and Japan. In each country, the vice president will meet with key leaders to discuss bilateral, regional, and international issues, according to the White House.  

Biden went to China at the invitation of Vice President Xi Jinping. While in Beijing, Biden will meet with Xi and other Chinese leaders, including President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.

Biden will also visit the city of Chengdu, in China’s southwest. On Saturday, he will deliver a speech on U.S.-China relations at Sichuan University.
