Bicyclist injured after running into pedestrian on Kauai

 

A 47-year-old bicyclist was transported to the hospital this morning after he struck a pedestrian at an intersection in Princeville on Kauai. 

Police said at about 8:51 a.m. the bicyclist was traveling eastbound on Kahuku Road when he struck the pedestrian, 23, who was crossing the road in a marked crosswalk. Police said the collision happened at the intersection of Kahuku Road and Wyllie Road. 

Police said the cyclist was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to Wilcox Hospital with major injuries to the back of his head.The pedestrian sustained cuts to his arms and hands and opted to drive himself to Mahelona Hospital for treatment.
