Wisconsin fugitive arrested on Maui is accused of stealing city funds

FBI agents here have arrested a fugitive from Wisconsin who is accused of sealing funds and equipment from the city of Beloit, Wis.

Agents arrested Timothy Kosier, 45, about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at a vacation rental home in Kihei, Maui, the FBI said. Kosier did not resist arrest and made an initial appearance Wednesday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard Puglisi in Honolulu.

According to the federal complaint, Kosier was a maintenance supervisor for the City of Beloit’s Water Resources Department. The complaint says he allegedly stole at least $5,000 worth of city property.

Between February and April, Kosier misused his authority to purchase supplies for the city, the complaint says. The Beloit Daily News said city officials said at least $150,000 was stolen.

An FBI spokesman in Honolulu says the exact amount is not known.

A detention hearing is scheduled Friday in federal court on how Kosier will be returned to Wisconsin.
