Storm cancels Delta flights between Tokyo and Honolulu

Five Delta Airlines flights between Tokyo and Honolulu are canceled today because of Typhoon Roke.

Delta flights 608, 638 and 646, scheduled to arrive this morning from Narita, did not take off during the storm and were canceled.

Delta flights 639 and 607 from Honolulu to Narita are also canceled. Flight 639 was scheduled to leave at 10:15 a.m. and Flight 607 was scheduled to depart at 11:30 a.m.

However, flight 647 departing for Narita at 1:35 p.m. from Honolulu is scheduled to depart on time, according to Delta’s website.

Delta canceled four flights to and from Japan on Tuesday. The only affected flights at Honolulu International Airport are with Delta Airlines, said state Department of Transportation spokesman Dan Meisenzahl.

Bloomberg News reported that Japan Airlines Co. canceled 112 domestic flights, the carrier said in a faxed statement. All Nippon Airways Co. said it canceled 116 domestic flights and two international flights while Skymark Airlines Inc., Japan’s biggest discount carrier, said it had 43 cancellations.

The storm also shut down commuter train service in Tokyo Tuesday night.

Delta issued a travel advisory on their website noting that the storm is expected to affect travel. Passengers traveling through Nagoya, Osaka and Tokyo are advised to check their flight status.

Passengers on the affected flights are being allowed to make changes without a change fee.
