The Diamond Head summit trail will be closing one afternoon this week while the state continues to renovate the area.

The Division of State Parks plans to close the summit trail at noon on Tuesday so hikers will be off the trail when a helicopter flies in materials.

Parks personnel will be stationed at the summit to escort people down starting at 1 p.m.

The popular trail will reopen the following morning at 6 a.m.

The materials are for a new loop and ledge improvement project at the trail.
