Hawaii County firefighters extinguish Ookala fire
A small brush fire destroyed a makeshift lean-to and burned through an abandoned cemetery in Ookala on Hawaii island.
Firefighters stopped the fire with water drops for a helicopter and line crews working the fire’s flanks.
The fire started about 1 p.m. Wednesday near the 30 mile-marker of Highway 19, firefighters said.
It was extinguished at 6 p.m. after coming within about 400 feet of an occupied structure at Kukui Camp. The cause was not determined.
