Verizon to expand faster service offerings

Verizon Wireless will offer 4G LTE service in 178 markets, by Nov. 17, the company announced today.

Following the service launches and expansions, users of the technology should experience average data rates of five to 12 megabits per second of download speed and two to five megabits per second of upload sped, while in a 4G LTE area. Outside of those areas, customers will be automatically connected to Verizon’s 3G network, according to a company statement.

Correction:  Verizon Wireless has offered 4G LTE service on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island since July. An earlier version of this story, based on a Verizon news release, that the service would be available in Hawaii by Nov. 17.
