Police issue 126 citations in speed enforcement project
Honolulu police issued 126 speeding citations within a three-hour time period last weekend, during an islandwide speed enforcement project.
The Police Department’s Traffic Division conducted the project between 10:30 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 a.m. Sunday, police said.
During the enforcement period, officers issued 185 citations — including the 126 speeding citations, arrested two people for driving under the influence, and booked three people for alleged traffic offenses.
Last year, 75 percent of speed-related traffic fatalities on Oahu happened between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., police said.
