The National Weather Service has lifted a flood advisory for Hawaii island this afternoon but the threat of rain still remains.

Forecasters say a weather system in the upper atmosphere combined with strong trade winds is bringing the threat of heavy showers through Friday.

Today, most of the rain is falling on Hawaii island, but forecasters say the threat of showers could spread to all islands tonight and Wednesday.

Conditions should dry out Wednesday night and Thursday, but the unsettled weather, and the threat of showers, is forecast through early Saturday.

The rain should be mostly on the windward and mauka side, but the strong tradewinds could blow some rain over to leeward sides.

Derek Wroe, a forecaster with the National Weather Service, says conditions should gradually improve over the weekend when 21 world leaders meet during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s lunch at Kualoa Ranch may get a passing windward shower. But the weather should be sunny for the traditional leaders’ photo on Sunday at Ko Olina, on the leeward side.
