Hawaii GOP elects David S. Chang new chairman

The Hawaii Republican Party has elected David S. Chang as its new chairman, the party announced in an email today.

Chang, an entrepreneur and West Point graduate, was elected unanimously Saturday by the party’s state committee, which is made up of 51 elected House District chairpersons, four county chairs, executive committee members and Republican leaders in the state House and Senate.

“I know that David has the experience and leadership skills necessary to move our party forward,” interim party Chairwoman Beth Fukumoto said in an email.

Chang succeeds former chairman Jonah Kaauwai, and will fill out the remainder of the 2011-13 term. Kaauwai resigned in September after key Republicans lost confidence in his leadership.
