Man arrested for allegedly setting Makaha brush fire
A 49-year-old man was arrested in Makaha on Saturday in connection with a brush fire near a homeless encampment that sent a man to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Officers responded to the fire near Keaau Beach Park about 10:10 a.m., and a man pointed out another man who started the fire, police said. The suspect was arrested for investigation of second-degree arson. Police said paramedics took a male who was overcome by smoke to the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.
Police said the fire burned about a quarter of an acre.
