The parents of a missing tourist from Colorado issued a statement after the Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department ended days of fruitless searching.

Robert Rumburg, 51, from Arvada, Colo., was reported missing near Sunset Beach on Wednesday evening. His surfboard was recovered near Rocky Point.

In a statement Saturday, Rumburg’s parents, Warren and Nancy Rumburg, said, “Bob was a wonderful father to his son Zach and a great son to us, and we will miss him dearly. We were just getting ready to start planning a fishing trip next summer with Bob and Zach. He and Zach spent a lot of time together fishing, and we have enjoyed camping with them over the years. It is so sad to think that we will not be able to do that again.”

The Honolulu Fire Department on ended its search on Saturday after deploying a rescue boat, helicopter, Jet Ski, divers and personnel to search the shoreline.

The Coast Guard ended its search Friday after sending out an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, a Coast Guard Auxiliary airplane, an HC-130 Hercules airplane and the Coast Guard cutter Ahi to search 3,155-square miles of ocean from 10 miles west of Kaena Point to 29 miles east of Kahuku Point. The search extended to 40 miles offshore.
