Man arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed HPU student
A man allegedly involved in the hit-and-run crash that killed a Hawaii Pacific University student turned himself in today at the main police station, police said.
The 29-year-old Kapolei man was arrested for investigation of failure to render aid and negligent homicide. He was released tonight pending investigation.
His white vehicle was located on the Leeward side, police said.
Mariah Danforth-Moore was killed by a hit-and-run driver Sunday night while walking across Kamehameha Highway to her dormitory, police said.
The driver did not stop. Police said the car likely had “severe” front-end damage.
HPU will hold a community memorial service Wednesday for Danforth-Moore. The service will begin a noon at the AC Lanai of HPU’s Hawaii Loa campus.

Danforth-Moore, 19, was a sophomore psychology student from Oneida, Wis.
A month earlier, the state installed flashing warning lights that pedestrians can activate at the crosswalk.
