Strong trade winds are creating fire dangers, high surf and rough seas.

The National Weather Service has  issued a red flag warning, high surf advisory and small craft advisories today.

Brush fires could spread quickly in leeward areas because of trade winds blowing at 15 to 20 mph with gusts of 35 mph, forecasters said. Dry conditions are also increasing the fire risk.

East shores could see 6 to 9 foot surf today from a trade wind swell. A high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m.

Boaters are also advised to use caution in coastal waters. Wind speeds of 35 knots are expected, with seas of 10 to 14 feet until about 6 p.m.

The winds knocked down a tree that closed Kaneohe-bound lanes of the LIkelike Highway about a half-mile before the tunnel shortly after 3 a.m. Crews cleared the tree and reopened the road at about 4:50 a.m.
