Canadian tourist dies in bike accident on Maui
A 65-year-old visitor from Canada died Sunday morning after the bicycle he was riding collided head-on with a Honda Element in Makawao.
Police said the cyclist, identified as Allyn Robert Parker of British Columbia, was traveling north on Makawao, about a quarter mile past Kee Road, when he crossed into the opposite lane on a right-hand turn and collided with the southbound Honda, driven by a 69-year-old man.
The cyclist was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
This is the 19th traffic fatality on Maui this year, compared to 11 at the same time last year.
