Witnesses nab 12-year-old suspect in Waikiki Beach bag theft

Bystanders chased down and captured a 12-year-old boy who attempted to steal a bag from a Waikiki beach Saturday evening, police said.

The victim, a 26-year-old woman, left her bag unattended on the beach at about 6 p.m. while she took some pictures. Police said the boy grabbed her bag and ran away, but witnesses gave chase and caught the boy. Police said they held the boy until officers arrived and arrested him for second-degree theft. The woman’s bag was recovered.
