Man accused in bar-fight fatality is charged with manslaughter
A 21-year-old man appeared in court Wednesday, accused of killing another man with a single punch to the face in front of a Kalihi bar.
Tevita Aholelei, 21, was charged with manslaughter Tuesday and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. His next court date is Friday.
According to a court affidavit, Solomone “Mone” Niusini, 26, was standing on the sidewalk in front of Da Kine’s Sports Bar, at 545 Kaaahi St., about 2:05 a.m. Sunday as the bar was closing.
Aholelei, for an undetermined and unprovoked reason, punched Niusini in the face, causing Niusini to fall backwards and hit his head on the concrete and lose consciousness, the documents said. Niusini never regained consciousness. He died at the Queen’s Medical Center about an hour later and was identified by his wife.
One women reported seeing Aholelei punch Niusini unprovoked. She said she knew both men for several years.
