Suspect in Kapalama bar fight charged with manslaughter

The suspect in the death of a Honolulu man in a fight outside a Kapalama bar is scheduled to appear in Honolulu District Court this morning after being charged with manslaughter.

Tevita Aholelei, 21, was being held on $100,000 bail.

Police said Aholelei hit a 26-year-old Honolulu man outside the Da Kine Sports Bar at bout 2:05 a.m. Sunday. The man fell backwards and hit his head on the pavement.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified the victim as Solomone Niusini, 26.

Niusini was taken by ambulance to the Queen’s Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Aholelei turned himself in at the main police station at 5:10 p.m. Monday after CrimeStoppers put out a bulletin seeking information on his whereabouts.
