Fisherman’s body found off Maui
The body of a 32-year-old Lahaina fisherman was recovered today from the ocean off West Maui, Maui officials said.
Police said the man was fishing with a friend when he entered the water at Nakalele Point to retrieve his fishing lure that had gotten stuck. Police do not believe the death was suspicious in nature and have classified the case as a miscellaneous accident. The man’s name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Firefighters were dispatched at 1:56 p.m., and found the man floating in the water, police said. Firefighters in a helicopter recovered the man’s body and brought it to shore.
