Realtor who stole $284,000 gets 33-month prison sentence
A Honolulu realtor who admitted stealing more than $284,000 over a period of four years from a trust fund for which he worked as a bookkeeper is going to prison for 33 months.
A federal judge handed Scott S. Kamiya this afternoon the maximum prison term suggested by federal court advisory sentencing guidelines.
In addition, U.S. District Judge Leslie E. Kobayashi ordered Kamiya to repay the trust $243,473.
He had paid back the trust approximately $40,000 before federal authorities charged him last summer.
Kamiya, 33, pleaded guilty last July to one count of bank fraud for forging the signature of a trust authorized representative on a $19,046 check and deposited the money into the account of one of his businesses.
