Officials seek owner of sailboat found aground off Lahaina

The Coast Guard and Maui law enforcement officials are searching for the owner of a 29-foot recreational sailing vessel found aground south of Lahaina on today.

The vessel, registered to Randy Perez, was found grounded at 11:15 a.m. The vessel is registered in Hawaii and bears hull identification number HA4201E.

Attempts to contact Perez have been unsuccessful, the Coast Guard said at 3:21 p.m.

No one was aboard the boat. The Coast Guard and local law enforcement are trying to determine if Perez is in distress.

Coast Guard officials request anyone with knowledge of the vessel or its owner to call Sector Honolulu command center at 842-2601.
