The man killed when he tripped and fell under a moving city bus Wednesday night has been identified as Dennis Crozier, 66, of Honolulu.

The city Department of Medical Examiner said Crozier died of multiple blunt force trauma injuries and ruled the incident an accident.

The incident happened on South King Street near University Avenue at about 11:40 p.m.

Police said a city bus was pulling away from a bus stop near Kapaakea Lane when the man began running alongside it, pounding on the rear door in an attempt to get the bus to stop.

The man lost his footing and fell under the rear tires, police said. Paramedics took him to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police closed King Street just before midnight while they investigated the accident.

The traffic fatality is Oahu’s seventh this year, compared with eight at the same time last year.
