Third chance the charm as Kamehameha-Hawaii wins D-II title

The third time was the charm for Chelsea Poe.

The senior guard and her sophomore sister, Casey, each scored 14 first-half points as second-seeded Kamehameha-Hawaii went on to coast past fourth-seeded Kauai 57-36 in the Division II championship game of the Hawaiian Airlines/HHSAA Girls Basketball State Championships Friday night at Blaisdell Arena.

"Losing last year in the state championship by 3 (points) kind of took a toll on us. We made a promise to ourselves if we make it back here, we’re giving 100 percent," Chelsea Poe said, referring to a 43-40 loss to Radford.

Casey Poe, a 5-foot-10 swingman, shot 7-for-11 from the field.

The Warriors used a swarming fullcourt press and the road runner-quick transition game led by Chelsea Poe to bolt to a 22-5 first-quarter lead.
