Kalani upsets defending champion Punahou in boys state soccer

Kalani defeated two-time defending state champion Punahou, 3-2, on Leo Klink’s goal in the 80th and final minute tonight in the 39th annual Outrigger Hotels & Resorts/Hawai’i High School Athletic Association Division I Boys Soccer State Championship quarterfinals at Waipi’o Peninsula Soccer Stadium.

Punahou had tied it at 2 in the 77th minute on a goal by Alex Lam.

Kalani advances to tomorrow’s 5 p.m. semifinal vs. Kapolei. ‘Iolani will play No. 1 seed Mililani in the other semifinal at 7.
