$1 million in jewelry snatched in LA robbery
LOS ANGELES >> Los Angeles police are searching for a gunman and an accomplice who robbed a pair of jewelers of about $1 million in merchandise outside a Sherman Oaks shopping center.
Investigators say the jewelers, from Palm Desert, were on their way Friday to make a delivery to a store inside the Westfield Fashion Square Mall when they pulled over to find a bathroom.
Police Sgt. Mitzi Fierro tells the Los Angeles Times their car was immediately blocked by a silver BMW with paper plates. Two men got out of the BMW, one pulling a gun, the other breaking a back window in the jewelers’ car and snatching the merchandise.
Detectives believe the robbers had been following the jewelers. It was unclear if the robbery was caught on surveillance video.
Police withheld the names of the victims.
