A 92-year-old woman was fatally injured Monday when she was struck by a car reversing at a senior center in Hilo.

Hawaii County police identified the victim as Tamiko Fujio of Hilo.

The accident, reported at 8:48 a.m., happened at the Kamana Senior Center at 127 Kamana St.

Police said a 59-year-old Hilo woman was reversing a 2008 Toyota four-door sedan from a lawn area onto a paved driveway when the car hit Fujio, who was walking to her vehicle.

Police said fire rescue personnel transported Fujio to Hilo Medical Center, where she died at 11:30 a.m.

The driver was not injured.

This fatality was not counted toward the official traffic fatality count because it happened on private property.
