Firefighters extinguished a wooden pallet fire on Kaumallii Street behind the Kapalama Shopping Center early this morning.

A quick response by Honolulu firefighters kept a pallet fire from spreading to buildings housing several businesses in Kapalama  early this morning.

The fire broke out at about 3:17 a.m. behind Advanced Wellness Center on Kaumualii Street in back of  the Kapalama Shopping Center.

Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said firefighters found about 80 pallets stacked into 6 foot-high  piles on fire.  They were able to bring the fire under control within five minutes before the fire had spread to buildings. The fire caused about $1,000 damage a pickup truck parked nearby.

Firefighters remained on scene until about 4:40 a.m. making sure the fire was extinguished. Seelig said firefighters removed each pallet from the piles  to make sure the fire was out and restacked them in another area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
