The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for Oahu this afternoon as heavy rain spreads from over the Koolau mountains to Windward areas.

The advisory is in effect until 9:45 p.m., forecasters said, adding that the area of heavy rain was moving slowly west.

The advisory covers the entire island but specifically mentioned Punaluu, Whitmore Village, Laie,  Kahuku, and Hauula.

Forecasters advise the public to beware of hazardous driving conditions, and to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
