UH softball team rolls to doubleheader sweep

University of Hawaii pitchers Stephanie Ricketts and Kaia Parnaby both threw shutouts and the Rainbow Wahine offense hit five home runs in a doubleheader sweep today to close the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament.

Ricketts struck out six and gave up two hits in a 9-0 five-inning win over Robert Morris in UH’s first game of the afternoon at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Parnaby had nine strikeouts and no walks while surrendering four hits in a 4-0 victory over Marist.

The 19th-ranked Wahine improved to 21-0 in winning all four of their games in the tournament to finish atop the standings.

UH scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning against Robert Morris with Leisha Li’ili’i contributing a two-run home run to the rally. Sharla Kliebenstein added a solo homer in the second.

The Wahine did all of their scoring via home runs in the win over Marist. Li’ili’i and Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu hit solo homers and Jessica Iwata hit a two-run shot in the sixth.
The Wahine next face No. 6 Texas on Tuesday to open the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament.
