State boating official pleads guilty to embezzling $125,000
Former state boating official Wesley Choi pleaded guilty in state court this morning to charges that he embezzled nearly $125,000 from the state.
Under the terms of his plea agreement with the state attorney general, if Choi pays back the money by the time he is sentenced in May, he will get probation and 1 1/2 years in jail. If he doesn’t pay back all of the money by then, he will get a 10-year prison term.
Choi, 39, was the assistant district manager for small boat harbors on Oahu before resigning last year.
