MANILA, Philippines >> Officials say a fire in a shopping mall has raged for two days in a suburb of the Philippine capital and has injured several people, mostly firefighters.

Fire marshal Oscar de Asis says security personnel called for help after discovering the fire in a clothes shop at the five-story Ever-Gotesco Grand Central Mall in Caloocan city late Friday. He says more than 100 firefighters with 50 fire trucks managed to put the blaze under control late Saturday.

De Asis says the fire reignited in two areas Sunday in the still-smouldering building and firefighters are still battling the blaze more than 40 hours after it began. Firefighters lacked breathing equipment and several trucks malfunctioned, compounding the problem.

The blaze erupted at the start of the scorching summer season.
