Honolulu police investigate a mo-ped crash scene Tuesday night on Kaneohe Bay Drive.

A mo-ped driven by a 19-year-old Kailua man ran a red light on Kaneohe Bay Drive and hit a white Lexus sedan, causing critical injuries to the moped driver, police said.

The accident happened at 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of Kaneohe Bay Drive and Mokulele Drive Tuesday night.

Police said the mo-ped driver may have been speeding while traveling west on Kaneohe Bay Drive along the right shoulder. The 19-year-old man was ejected from the mo-ped after crashing into the Lexus, which was making a left turn into the Bay View Golf Course from Kaneohe Bay Drive.

The Lexus, driven by a 61-year-old Honolulu man, had a green left turn light, police said.

The mo-ped driver was not wearing a helmet. He suffered "massive leg injuries" and went to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
