A 23-year-old man was arrested Thursday after a witness saw him trying to steal a mo-ped in Waikiki.

Police said the witness saw the man riding a mo-ped when he approached a parked mo-ped and cut its chain about 6:30 a.m.

The man then parked his mo-ped at a nearby building, walked back to the parked mo-ped, and started it without a key by breaking the ignition, police said.

Officers arrived and arrested the man for unauthorized control of a vehicle after finding his mo-ped had been reported stolen. He was also arrested for investigation of attempted theft for the second mo-ped and was released pending investiation.
