City bus slams into concrete wall outside of Kawaiahao Church

Downtown traffic at the intersection of King and Punchbowl streets was blocked after a city bus slammed into the wall fronting Kawaiahao Church this evening.

The out-of-service bus with no passengers aboard was traveling makai on Punchbowl at about 5:30 p.m. when it went through the King Street intersection, jumped the curb and slammed into the concrete wall.

Firefighters were trying to free the driver whose legs were pinned. The driver was conscious.

Police have closed King Street at Richards and Punchbowl at Beretania, the city said about 6:30 p.m. Initially after the accident, some lanes of King and Punchbowl were open to traffic.

All lanes were open to traffic about 10 p.m.
