High surf and shark sighting shut 2 Kauai beaches
Haena and Kee beaches on Kauai’s North Shore are closed to swimming today due to high surf conditions. Ocean Safety officials also report that a shark was sighted in waters off Haena Beach at about 9:30 a.m.
Kauai lifeguards will remain at the Haena and Kee beach towers throughout the day to notify beachgoers of the closure. The Kee Beach tower will close at 4 p.m. today due to the Kalihiwai Bridge closure this evening.
Both beaches will reopen Wednesday if conditions are deemed safe for swimming, Kauai officials said.
