Hilo man arrested for allegedly throwing rock through van windshield

A 59-year-old Pahoa man reported that a man threw a large rock at his van’s windshield while driving near Pahoa Tuesday afternoon.

Big Island police said the man was driving on Highway 130 at about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday when a man on the side of the road flung a rock that broke through the windshield. No one, however, was injured.

Police arrested a 49-year-old Hilo man on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage, and he is being held at the Hilo police cell block.

Police said the man was driving a 1995 maroon and bronze Chevy Astro toward Keaau near the intersection of Highway 132.

Police are looking for witnesses in this rock-throwing incident, or any other incidents of rocks being thrown at vehicles.
