The University of Hawaii softball team posted two more wins by mercy rule today to complete a series sweep of Louisiana Tech.
Senior first baseman Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu drove in in four runs in UH’s 9-1 win in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
In the series finale, Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu and Jessica Iwata both hit two-run home runs to help power the No. 14/19 Rainbow Wahine (35-4, 9-2 Western Athletic Conference) to an 8-0 win.
Senior right-hander Stephanie Ricketts earned her second win of the series in the opener and and junior left-hander Kaia Parnaby closed the weekend with a one-hit shutout.
In today’s first game, Louisiana Tech (18-23, 5-6) took a 1-0 lead with a bases-loaded walk in the top of the first inning. UH junior Kelly Majam then led off the bottom of the first with a home run for the second straight game, hammering Michelle Jones’ first pitch of the game out to left-center.
The Wahine loaded the bases with no outs and after two pop-ups Dara Pagaduan drew a walk to score Kayla Wartner. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu then bounced a two-run single up the middle to give UH a 4-0 lead.
UH added a single run in the second on Alex Aguirre’s bases-loaded groundout and stretched the lead to 8-1 with a three-run fourth highlighted by Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu’s two-out, two-run single.
The Wahine loaded the bases in the fifth and ended the game on Aguirre’s single up the middle.
Ricketts (22-2) left the bases loaded in the first two innings and finished with five strikeouts and four walks in her second four-hit victory of the series.
Sarah Robinson gave UH a 1-0 lead in the second game with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the first. The Wahine scored three runs on two LaTech errors in the third and Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu continued her tear with a two-run homer to put UH up 6-0.
Jessica Iwata hit a two-run home run to center field in the fourth and Parnaby (13-2) retired LaTech in order in the fifth to end the game.
