Boise State coach Chris Petersen raised the Fiesta Bowl trophy over his head after the Broncos defeated TCU 17-10 in January.

BOISE, Idaho >>  The Idaho State Board of Education has signed off on a new five-year, $11.7 million deal for Boise State football coach Chris Petersen.

The board unanimously approved the new contract at its meeting Thursday in Moscow.

Petersen’s new package includes a bump in base pay each of the five years plus a series of incentives. One new twist is a $250,000 annual licensing payment that gives Boise State the ability to use Petersen’s name, image, voice and signature to market the school or sell merchandise. The deal requires those payments to be made to Chris Petersen Enterprises LLC.

Earlier this year, the board approved giving Petersen a $375,000 raise for 2012.

The contract is designed to keep Petersen’s salary competitive.
