An 18-year-old man has been charged with trying to kill his father during a heated argument at his home in Kailua.

Albert J. Ferreira, of a South Kalaheo Avenue address, was charged Tuesday with second-degree attempted murder. He remained at the main police station in lieu of $20,000 bail.

Police said a 50-year-old man got into an argument with his son about 6 p.m. Monday when the son stabbed his father with a knife. The father called 911 and the son was arrested without incident.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said the father was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
